Quantum Explorer 2023 is a global event on quantum computing organized by IBM. The event is designed in a way that keeps a 'game-based' learning approach in mind. This time the theme is space exploration where you are a space explorer and you have to give an imaginary name to your starship. This is an important interstellar journey to grow your proficiency in quantum computing. It is a self-paced event which means we can learn it at our own pace and comfort.
Important Program Dates:
Launch: July 6, 2023
Program: February 1, 2024
It features 7 exploration themed achievements:
1) Captain: It is a learning module titled 'Quantum Computing and Qiskit 101'.
2) Time Traveller: It is a learning module titled 'Quantum Error Correction and Mitigation'.
3) Space Combatant: It is a learning module titled 'Quantum Machine Learning'.
4) Expert Navigator: It is a learning module titled 'Quantum Optimization'.
5) Prime Ambassador: It is a community module titled 'Discord Activity and Community Events'.
6) Eminent Scientists: It is a community module titled 'Quantum Women Invited Talks'.
7) Supreme Observer: It is a community module titled 'IBM Quantum Challenge Fall 2023'.
The event is beginner-friendly but difficulty level increases as achievements are unlocked. The material covers approximately 50-84 hours of learning over 7 months. There is a dedicated discord server where we can discuss in case of doubts. The Quantum community is big and it consists of people from diverse groups from computer scientists to physicists, high school students to Ph.D. students etc. The Jupyter notebooks are available in 3 languages:
English
Spanish
Japanese.
I have given my starship name 'Chandrayaan3' as I am very excited about the moon mission. The Captain badge consists of 2 types of questions viz Multiple Choice Question and Coding Question. The Multiple Choice Questions need you to know about the basic behavior of quantum gates, important quantum properties(superposition, entanglement, interference), the behavior of a series of gates, different bell states with their mathematical and circuit representations, quantum teleportation algorithm, different bases of measurement, QSphere representation of the quantum state etc. A few extra credit questions need you to know about unitary matrices of gates and Grover's algorithm. I have completed the Jupyter Notebook and achieved the Captain badge.
